In Israel, accelerating climate change, human negligence, and arson attacks spark an average of 600 wildfire incidents a year. And Israel isn’t alone -forest fires are on the rise worldwide. But we can protect our forests with the right preparation.
It can take decades for a forest to fully recover from a fire.
Wildfire destroys about 3,500 acres (1,400 hectares) of precious open space in Israel EACH YEAR. The environmental destruction effects humans, wildlife, the landscape, soil, and air quality. The damage is long term -some of the destroyed trees are over 100 years old, and rehabilitating the forest can take decades.
Scientists estimate that wildfires will increase by 20-50% in the coming years due to climate change. KKL-JNF takes proven practical measures to prevent wildfires from escalating. Our experienced teams map Israel’s forests, prune trees, remove dry underbrush and tree waste, prepare access roads, create firebreaks, and train and equip firefighting teams.
But we can’t do it alone – we need your help.
