{"id":176,"date":"2024-01-18T07:50:58","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T07:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/git.quatro.digital\/clients\/kkl\/?post_type=community&#038;p=176"},"modified":"2024-03-26T09:06:10","modified_gmt":"2024-03-26T09:06:10","slug":"kibbutz-gevim","status":"publish","type":"community","link":"https:\/\/donate.kkl-jnf.org\/westernnegevtribute\/?community=kibbutz-gevim","title":{"rendered":"Gevim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0Kibbutz<\/strong> Gevim (Hebrew for &#8220;<em>Cisterns<\/em>&#8220;) was established on August 28, 1947, about three months before the UN vote on the establishment of the state.\u00a0 The founding members of the kibbutz were from the <strong>Palmach<\/strong> and had been members of a Labor Zionist Youth Movement. \u00a0The kibbutz served as a headquarters for the Israel Defense Forces during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.<br \/>\nThe original name of the community was Sde Akiva, after the well-known agronomist Akiva Ettinger. Subsequently, members of the kibbutz chose the name Gevim, a Hebrew word meaning cistern or holes in rocks where rainwater can accumulate.<\/p>\n<p>The kibbutz is a diverse, multi-generational community which places education, culture and environmental protection at the center of its community life.\u00a0 Volunteering and social entrepreneurship serve as ways to empower the community and its members.<\/p>\n<p>The kibbutz is involved in agriculture and has an avocado plantation, a dairy farm, and a poultry farm.
