{"id":183,"date":"2024-01-21T07:35:29","date_gmt":"2024-01-21T07:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/git.quatro.digital\/clients\/kkl\/?post_type=community&#038;p=183"},"modified":"2024-02-12T06:12:04","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T06:12:04","slug":"kibbutz-saad","status":"publish","type":"community","link":"https:\/\/donate.kkl-jnf.org\/westernnegevtribute\/?community=kibbutz-saad","title":{"rendered":"Sa\u2019ad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kibbutz<\/strong> Sa&#8217;ad was founded by graduates of the <strong>B&#8217;nei Akiva<\/strong> movement.\u00a0 It was the first religious kibbutz to be founded by native-born Israelis, also known as \u201csabras.\u201d During the 1948 War, the kibbutz was almost entirely destroyed by the Egyptian army. \u00a0It was heavily shelled, so for months the kibbutz members lived in bunkers and underground tunnels. \u00a0As a result of the shelling, all buildings above the ground were destroyed, with the exception of the &#8220;security house&#8221; &#8211; the only building made of concrete. \u00a0Today, the \u201csecurity house\u201d building serves as a museum called, &#8220;Fortress in front of Gaza.\u201d The kibbutz runs and participates in several unique educational frameworks such as \u201cYouth Education\u201d, a school and dormitory framework for teenagers from broken homes; Foster Family, for grade school children; \u201cConversion Ulpan,\u201d for families and young people who are converting to Judaism; and Nativ, the USY year program in Israel for American teens.<br \/>\nKibbutz Sa&#8217;ad&#8217;s economy is based primarily on agriculture, growing carrots; potatoes; avocadoes; almonds; and citrus fruit.\u00a0 They also have a large dairy farm and a poultry farm.
