{"id":69,"date":"2023-12-20T10:04:06","date_gmt":"2023-12-20T10:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/git\/kkl\/?post_type=community&#038;p=69"},"modified":"2024-02-08T07:00:16","modified_gmt":"2024-02-08T07:00:16","slug":"kibbutz-magen","status":"publish","type":"community","link":"https:\/\/donate.kkl-jnf.org\/westernnegevtribute\/?community=kibbutz-magen","title":{"rendered":"Magen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kibbutz<\/strong> Magen (Hebrew for <em>&#8220;Shield&#8221;<\/em>) was established in 1949 by two different nuclei of the <strong>Hashomer HaTzair<\/strong> movement &#8211; one nucleus of residents from within Israel, and a second nucleus of immigrants from Romania, some of whom spent about a year in the detention camps in Cyprus after the Holocaust. Within the kibbutz there is an observation point called Givat HaSheikh (The Sheikh Hill), which is the highest point in the entire area, for it there&#8217;s a panoramic view of the Eshkol Regional Council communities and the southern Gaza Strip. Magen has a cooperative nature, but also provides various opportunities for entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on social solidarity.<\/p>\n<p>Magen operates many field crops and a dairy farm, in cooperation with Kibbutz Gvulot and Be&#8217;eri and the &#8220;Magen Eco-Energy&#8221; factory producing solar energy systems. Within the Kibbutz there are a variety of community services, including: a medical clinic, a grocery store, a laundry, a garage, a carpentry shop, a locksmith&#8217;s shop, a library, sports fields, a playground, a zoological garden &#8220;ZOO-Havahiya&#8221;, an educational activity center for parents and toddlers, and an art gallery named &#8220;Steam Gallery&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2023, Kibbutz Magen was privatized, in the format of a renewing kibbutz while maintaining the pension rights of the kibbutz members, a social safety net, as well as the distribution of capital, differential wages and a transition to paid services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kibbutz Magen (Hebrew for &#8220;Shield&#8221;) was established in 1949 by two different nuclei of the Hashomer HaTzair movement &#8211; one nucleus of residents from within Israel, and a second nucleus of immigrants from Romania, some of whom spent about a year in the detention camps in Cyprus after the Holocaust.
